The National Retail Federation says consumers are cutting their shopping budgets this year. But there are ways to help stretch your hard-earned dollar.
Ask any shopper for holiday shopping advice and someone's bound to tell you about layaway. Layaways are available at some stores for a minimal charge and a percentage of money down on the item you're purchasing. It comes in handy it you don't want to use your credit card.
Another tip: make a list and check it twice. Check items in stores, store ads and online to find the lowest price. Making a list also helps you stick to a budget.
