Big News from Visa
If you pay attention to the stock exchange or even if you follow some business headlines on a weekly basis, then you most likely saw that the initial public offering from Visa, Inc. was the largest in U.S. history and the third largest worldwide raising $17.86 billion. Visa announced on March 18th that it priced the initial public offering of 406,000,000 shares of Class A common stock at $44 per share to begin trading on March 19, 2008, on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol "V." The San Francisco-based credit and debit card processor opened its stock at $59.50 and finished the day 29% over its IPO at $56.86. Visa's Chairman and CEO Joseph W. Saunders had the opportunity to ring The Opening Bell on Wednesday morning celebrating a great day for Visa.
With Visa setting records and continuing to look extremely strong in an unsteady U.S. market, investors seemed to be waiting for this chance for quite some time. April Holidays
There may not be any time granted off from work during the month of April, but there are two important days that individuals and companies recognize during this spring month. Earth Day is April 22nd and it is a day to recognize and think about the environment and what measures can be taken on an individual or company-wide basis. U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson is credited in starting Earth Day in 1970 at a conference in Seattle, Washington. Because of this grassroots effort, great progress has been made in educating the world about the importance of promoting environmentalism on every level. Taking the day to think about what can be done on an individual level as well as corporate level is the reason that this holiday is observed year after year and continues to drive important environmental programs. From a corporate perspective, even on a small business level, there seems to always be a little more that can be done to participate in helping the environment. Another benefit of thinking mindfully when it comes to the environment is that you can help save your business money, which is always a large benefit. Making employees aware of energy issues, recycling, and reusing concerns can help the overall bottom line. Administrative Professional's Day is a day to recognize the work of administrative assistants, office managers, receptionists, and secretaries. Started by the National Secretaries Association, which is now known as the International Association of Administrative Professionals, in effort to recognize secretaries for their workplace contributions as well as attract job-seekers to administrative careers. There are currently over 8.9 million people working in administrative support roles according to the U.S. Department of Labor, with 4.1 million in the U.S. alone. This is a great day to thank the employees that make the office communicate more efficiently, coordinate all meetings, manage projects, master software, and more. Administrative professionals have expanded their roles in the work-place and are responsible for more and more tasks that make the office gel.
