No Gifts in Cart

April is here and spring has finally arrived! The weather is getting nicer and that means everyone wants to be outside more and not stuck inside malls shopping for spring gifts. Mother's Day, Administrative Professional's Day, Father's Day, graduations, and birthdays are just some of the events that gifts are needed for during the spring and summer.

Big News from Visa

If you pay attention to the stock exchange or even if you follow some business headlines on a weekly basis, then you most likely saw that the initial public offering from Visa, Inc. was the largest in U.S. history and the third largest worldwide raising $17.86 billion. Visa announced on March 18th that it priced the initial public offering of 406,000,000 shares of Class A common stock at $44 per share to begin trading on March 19, 2008, on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol "V." The San Francisco-based credit and debit card processor opened its stock at $59.50 and finished the day 29% over its IPO at $56.86. Visa's Chairman and CEO Joseph W. Saunders had the opportunity to ring The Opening Bell on Wednesday morning celebrating a great day for Visa.

With Visa setting records and continuing to look extremely strong in an unsteady U.S. market, investors seemed to be waiting for this chance for quite some time. There are more and more options of paying with plastic compared to cash or check and Visa seems to be leading in this strong and competitive market. Visa is a brand name that powers many types of cards. GiftCards.com made the decision several years ago to partner with Visa and become an Independent Sales Organization. Visa has shown such strength over a good deal of time and GiftCards.com is proud to provide their brand.

April Holidays

There may not be any time granted off from work during the month of April, but there are two important days that individuals and companies recognize during this spring month. Earth Day is April 22nd and it is a day to recognize and think about the environment and what measures can be taken on an individual or company-wide basis. U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson is credited in starting Earth Day in 1970 at a conference in Seattle, Washington. Because of this grassroots effort, great progress has been made in educating the world about the importance of promoting environmentalism on every level. Taking the day to think about what can be done on an individual level as well as corporate level is the reason that this holiday is observed year after year and continues to drive important environmental programs. From a corporate perspective, even on a small business level, there seems to always be a little more that can be done to participate in helping the environment. Another benefit of thinking mindfully when it comes to the environment is that you can help save your business money, which is always a large benefit. Making employees aware of energy issues, recycling, and reusing concerns can help the overall bottom line. Spending less on energy bills because everyone is turning off their lights or utilizing motion lights in restrooms can help save money as well as encouraging employees to bring in their own coffee mugs to eliminate the use of Styrofoam cups. Simple actions that do not take a great deal of effort, but in turn can provide a great deal of relief in terms of overwhelming energy issues should be made a priority throughout the year and with the help of Earth Day can guide everyone on the right path.

The next holiday is on April 23rd, the day after Earth Day. Administrative Professional's Day is a day to recognize the work of administrative assistants, office managers, receptionists, and secretaries. These roles are what hold companies together, both big and small. Admin Day is celebrated world-wide and began in 1952 as National Secretaries Week. Started by the National Secretaries Association, which is now known as the International Association of Administrative Professionals, in effort to recognize secretaries for their workplace contributions as well as attract job-seekers to administrative careers. There are currently over 8.9 million people working in administrative support roles according to the U.S. Department of Labor, with 4.1 million in the U.S. alone. This is a great day to thank the employees that make the office communicate more efficiently, coordinate all meetings, manage projects, master software, and more. Administrative professionals have expanded their roles in the work-place and are responsible for more and more tasks that make the office gel. Giving gifts for Admin Day is something that everyone should take into consideration as a way to say thank you for another great year of hard work.
