National chain store gift cards are available at gift card kiosks in the mall, at grocery stores, and online. But local gift cards are only available in mom and pop locations, if at all. Gift Local changes that.

Sometimes known as Fresberg, The ‘No or even Fres-yes, Fresno, California is a city in the middle of the desert. The dry land has been brought to life by a series of canals that feed the dozens of farms and orchards surrounding the city. 1. The historic Tower District is the focus of the city’s nightlife and art scene. At its center lies the Tower Theater, a beautiful art deco cinema known for its elaborate interior design and period-style powder rooms. Today, the Tower showcases live performances and touring shows. It is also home to a number of film festivals and art house showings throughout the year. The Tower District also features an array of coffee shops, bars and restaurants such as Sequoia Brewery, which is renowned for its selection of craft beers. Olive Ave., the Tower District’s main street is home to numerous local retailers. From record stores to gift boutiques to antique shops, you can find it all in the Tower District.

2. Fresno has a lot to offer the more adventurous foodie. The city is home to large Mexican and Southeast Asian communities and there are numerous excellent restaurants spread throughout the poorer parts of town. Tortillerias and taquerias, such as La Michoacana on the corner of Van Ness and Belmont, can be found on many corners and are great places to pick up a burrito, a taco or a stack of fresh tortillas. Thai, Lao and Vietnamese restaurants abound. B&K Asian Kitchen, located on N. First St. above Olive Ave., is a perfect example. Their combination of Lao and Thai cuisine makes for some of the best food in the city.

3. Those interested in something a little more mainstream flock to Riverpark Shopping Plaza. This massive outdoor mall features bars, restaurants, a cinema and all of the best American chain retailers. For a day of heavy shopping, nothing beats the Riverpark Plaza in Fresno.
