Memphis is one of Tennessee’s most notable cities, and is often considered the gateway to the Deep South. If you are thinking of taking a trip down to Memphis, there are three locations that simply cannot be missed. They combine not only some of the city’s best entertainment and architecture, but they are in central locations that allow for easy access to local dining and shopping.

The Peabody Hotel: The Peabody is one of Memphis’ classic hotels. You might want to stop by to stay in one of the luxurious rooms or look at the impressive architecture, but the real attraction is the ducks. The hotel’s famous ducks go on parade twice a day, and spend quite a bit of time in the lobby’s fountain. Even if you are not a fan of birds, the hotel’s central location allows you access to great shopping and some of the city’s best barbecue.

Beale Street: It is hard to think of Memphis without thinking of Beale Street. An entire city street full of clubs, dining and music, it simply must be experienced to be believed. The street is closed off to traffic during the evening, allowing revelers the chance to walk to and from some of the best bars and clubs in town. If you prefer dining options, the restaurants on the street feature some of the city’s best down-home favorites.

Memphis Zoo: If you want to get in touch with nature, you might want to check out the Memphis zoo. Featuring the state’s most impressive collection of animals, the zoo takes almost a full day to experience. Visitors can cap off a day by driving only a few minutes to some of the city’s best dining or shopping options, and special events take place at the zoo on a monthly basis.

Memphis has many great attractions, and the three above are only three of many. The dining and shopping in the city is fantastic, and the cultural opportunities may surprise you. Given the chance, it is quite easy to spend time in Memphis.
