The American Midwest is full of some of the country’s most interesting and vibrant cities. Milwaukee, Wisconsin is often overshadowed by its larger neighbor to the south, Chicago, but visitors love the so-called Cream City because of its smaller size, slower pace and cultural offerings. Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, the city of Milwaukee offers visitors some picturesque views and a number of opportunities for fishing and other forms of recreation. However, Milwaukee also boasts some of the world’s most respected museums and a bevy of outstanding dining and shopping experiences.

Those who visit Milwaukee will immediately notice the sweet smell of brewing beer. For many people, the city’s number one attraction is probably the Miller Brewery. Though the city is not as dependent upon beer brewing as it once was, Milwaukee is still defined by its most closely associated product, and the brewery gives visitors a chance to see how the beverage is made. Visitors can even sample fresh product soon after it is made.

Second on many visitors’ lists is a trip to Miller Park to watch a Milwaukee Brewers game. The park is one of Major League Baseball’s finest, and it features a large number of unique dining options. If the Brew Crew is not playing, travelers can check out the city’s third top option – The Third Ward Arts and Fashion district. This part of the city is located close to downtown, and it features a number of wonderful local shops and restaurants. Stores like shoo and Ooh La La can only be found in this district, and eateries such as the Milwaukee Ale House offer shoppers a chance to relax and dine while enjoying the city’s famous beer.

Visitors to the Midwest do not often think of Milwaukee as a destination, but the city often surprises those who give it a chance. From beer to baseball to some of the most upscale shopping opportunities in the region, the city offers something for everyone. While the Windy City to the south is more famous, Milwaukee stands proud with its status as one of the Midwest’s most diverse and lively cities.
